Is Your Job Search Internet Savvy?
Yes - you just proved it! You are reading this iHispano article and using cutting edge job search and résumé management technologies available on iHispano.com.
Posting Your Résumé on iHispano
Posting your résumé on iHispano.com will allow you to identify jobs and submit résumés (see HISPANIC Résumés Generate Job Interviews) in a matter of seconds.
To use iHispano's job search tools, the best approach is to create a text version of your résumé
How to Create a Text Résumé
- Make a copy of your existing résumé.
- Use your word processor's SAVE AS function to save the résumé copy as a plain text or text only file.
- Close the file and then re-open it.
- Check to make sure that bullets have been translated into asterisks (*) or dashes ( - ).
- Remove extra spaces and gaps.
- Make sure that your name is on the first line (flush left), and that your contact information, including e-mail address, is stacked underneath.
- Add an extra space between any paragraphs that need to be separated.
The Automated Job Search
Now that your résumé is posted on the iHispano site, employers will be able to access it through keyword matches (see below).
In addition, you can start applying for jobs. Go to iHispano.com, click on JOB SEARCH, type your job title and/or keywords into the KEYWORDS box, add the city and state, and press GO. Takes about 10 seconds to get a detailed list of job openings!
- To learn more about a specific job opportunity, click on the job title.
- To check out the employer, click on the company name.
- To apply for a particular job, scroll down to the bottom of the job posting, click APPLY, and follow the directions.
Keywording
Before applying for jobs, you should strongly consider "keywording" your résumé to optimize your chances for success. Keywords are critically important because employers and recruiters use them as search terms when they query résumé databases. In other words, your résumé will come up as a match ONLY if it contains the right keywords.
Step-by-step instructions for keywording are provided in Create a "Buzz" by Using Keywords to Screen-in Your iHispano Resume while Others are Screened-out
Here are some additional tips to maximize your results:
- Use a professional sounding personal e-mail address that is solely dedicated to your job search.
- Update your résumé at least every 30 days to keep it current in the iHispano system. If there are no changes open your résumé and hit save.
- Submit a customized cover letter with each résumé. Instructions are provided in LATINO Career Marketing Letters Generate Even More Job Interviews.
No one can predict how résumés and job searching will change as Web technology continues to evolve, but one thing's for certain: using iHispano’s Web-based job search tools will expedite your job search efforts!
